Privacy
Le Mulot stores your walking history in the app on your iPhone. It has no user accounts, sync server, built-in advertising or third-party analytics service.
Location and motion
With your permission, Le Mulot uses location to recognise the Paris streets you walk and the places you reach. Background access enables recording while the app is out of view or your iPhone is locked. Motion activity helps distinguish walking from vehicle travel. Le Mulot processes these signals on the device. Approximate location or limited permissions can prevent accurate street recording.
What is stored
The app stores walked segment IDs, visit counts and dates, dated walking events, reached places, and your pins with their notes, coordinates and dates. Preferences also stay on the device. Recovery keeps the chosen package and a copy from before restoring in the app’s private files so an interruption can be resumed. These copies are not sent to the developer automatically. Le Mulot does not create a permanent track containing every GPS fix it receives.
A local diagnostic log keeps up to 1,200 recent lines to help explain app behaviour. It can contain times, activity and permission states, map information and errors. Technical information, including coordinates during location processing, may also appear in the system diagnostic console. Le Mulot does not automatically send these records to its developer.
Apple Maps and system services
Apple Maps provides the basemap. Displaying it may contact Apple’s services and is also subject to Apple’s privacy information. This does not sync your Le Mulot history to a Le Mulot server. iPhone backups, including iCloud backups if enabled, may include app data according to your settings.

Optional private iCloud backups
If you enable automatic backups in Settings → Backups and recovery, Le Mulot sends complete copies of your walking history and supported settings to your private iCloud database through Apple’s CloudKit service. Copies include visited streets, dated walking events, reached places, pins and their notes and coordinates. They are not sent to a developer-operated history server. Backup is off until you enable it.
Automatic backups run while Le Mulot is open. Each uploaded copy is read back and checked before the app marks it verified. Restoring a saved copy requires your confirmation; enabling backup does not replace your current progress. An account-specific identifier keeps backup operations associated with the current iCloud account. Apple handles account and service information under its privacy policy, and private database storage counts toward your iCloud storage.
You can turn automatic backups off. This stops future scheduling; an upload already sent may still finish. Existing copies are retained. This version has no automatic expiry or per-copy cloud deletion control. Consult Apple’s iCloud storage settings for account storage controls. Keep an independent complete file backup, especially before changing phones or removing the app.
Export and sharing
You can choose to export a JSON backup, a map poster or the diagnostic log. You choose the destination in the iOS share sheet. A backup may reveal your habits and personal notes; a poster may show the streets you have walked. Shared copies are then subject to the recipient or service you select. The map-data download in the credits contains no personal history.
Retention and deletion
Local history does not expire automatically. You can delete individual pins and clear the diagnostic log in the app. Le Mulot does not have a button to erase all walking history. Deleting the app through iOS removes its local app data; offloading keeps that data. Backups and files already exported must be managed separately where you saved them. The developer cannot recover history of which they hold no copy.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, discovery alerts are created locally by the app. You can disable them in iOS notification settings. Le Mulot does not use a remote push-notification server.
Your permissions
You can stop recording using “Record my walks” in Settings. You can also withdraw location or motion access in iOS privacy settings. Stopping recording or withdrawing permission does not delete existing history.
